In all honesty, I hate spending my hard earned money on clothing and I don’t love that consumerism is a huge part of fashion blogging. This is one of the reasons why I haven’t done a fashion post in almost four months. I’d much rather put my hard earned money towards my dream home, travel, or a car that I really love, which is why I’ve been experimenting with renting my clothing. Could this be the end-all be-all solution for the girl who loves fashion, but hates spending money on new clothing every single month just to keep up with…

I normally reserve podcast talk for the SC show notes, but I am SO, SO excited about today’s guest, Dr. Carole Barnett, who was my leadership professor during the MBA program. Dr. Barnett is one of my mentors, and she helped me realize that I wanted to be an authentic leader for others. She ignited a fire within me to seek and create change. I wasn’t able to shift the culture of the organization that I was working at through informal leadership, so I had to make a bold move and become fearless. I left my corporate job in November…

Starting your own business and being an entrepreneur is amazing; you get to be in control of your hours, what you do, and who you impact. But if you think you’re going to be an overnight millionaire, think again. When you are the CEO of a startup, you are the last to get paid.   “In Silicon Valley, 75% of founders pay themselves less than $75,000 per year and 66% pay themselves less than $50,000 per year (source).”   The first full year that Style Collective existed, I didn’t pay myself a dime. I put every single penny back into…

Today, my team and I were putting together a blog post for Style Collective talking about retail/e-commerce trends, content ideas and what to plan for the month of August. While researching trends, I learned that new home purchases are driving a huge portion of economic growth in the U.S., which reminded me that I need to stay on top of my own blog and share what I’m doing behind the scenes with our new home. I already shared my creative process here, so today I am going to share my home interior design inspiration aka my swipe files that I…

I recently did an interview with my friend Rachel (scroll down to watch it), and she asked me “If millions of people were watching this right now, what would you say?” and my response was: don’t give up. Why do I say this? In the words of my Mom: “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” Her other favorite thing to say was “Life’s a bitch, and then you die,” but that’s another story for another time. But in all seriousness, life is f**king hard. People die, things don’t go your way, and people can be bullies. But…

Last month, I attended three launch parties in Raleigh, Charlotte, and Boston. Today I’m recapping my two short days in Charlotte; for me, a good trip is all about the hotel, the food, and the hair. Mike and I are loyal Marriott hotel goers with gold status from all of his travel at PwC & now my traveling as well. If you didn’t know, the Marriot brand has SO many hotels under its umbrella, including SPG hotels such as W hotels, The Westin, Sheraton, and more. Mike and I love staying at the Rennaisance in North Hills, Raleigh and when…

Last weekend I had the incredible honor of attending Amber Lilyestrom’s Soul Fueled Summit with my internet bestie, Courtney. Amber also happens to be this week’s guest on the Becoming Fearless Podcast (side note: thank you, everyone, who has left a review!). Basically, Amber is a female Tony Robbins, and the entire summit was about finding self-love. Self-love is something that I have been struggling with lately, and this isn’t something that I’ve talked about publically yet. I’ve talked about how the work bully enabled me to make a bold move and start a company that brings women together, which is…

Have you guys heard? I’ve launched a podcast!! And to celebrate, there were 25+ launch parties all over the country that brought SC Sisters together so they could listen and discuss why being authentic to yourself, knowing your values, and what you stand for is so critical to being FEARLESS. I attended three launch parties in Raleigh, Charlotte, and Boston. Today I’m going to be sharing the BTS of the Becoming Fearless SC Launch Party in Boston that I attended. Lindsay of Paris, Meet Boston is a blogger, French teacher, and organized the party location at La Voile in Boston. Gretchen…

I’ve recently started hearing the phrase “lifestyle entrepreneur” and wondered, wtf is that? So after doing some snooping around the internets, I found out what it means: an entrepreneur who can work from his or her laptop anywhere in the world. Your business consists of digital products or services that do not require a physical location, store, or inventory. So now, when someone asks me what I do, instead of saying entrepreneur, blogger, speaker, consultant, and podcast host (launching May 9th!), I can now say in one simple little phrase: lifestyle entrepreneur. Love it just as much as this bell sleeve…

Do you ever stop to think about what motivates you in life and your career? Does success mean having fancy cars, elegant homes, designer clothes, and handbags? What happens if you do acquire all of these things, have you actually “made it”? Does chasing paper make us happy in the end? What about the external recognition and status that comes with promotions and financial rewards? This is all great, but you will always want more, and you will never feel satisfied or fulfilled if you chase extrinsic motivations. Pursuing meaningful success means that you balance both extrinsic and intrinsic motivations.…

I absolutely love home design, it’s something that I’ve thought about doing as a consultant many times before. When we bought our condo in 2013, we totally re-did the inside, transforming it from beat-up and rundown to luxurious and glamorous. I posted about it on Houzz back in 2015 and they ended up picking it up and writing an article about our kitchen transformation, which was really cool. You can read the article here, stalk the sad before photos here, and the fabulous after photos here. Kitchen Before: I can’t even with this photo. I still can’t believe that this was our…
