Hey there lovely! So I’ve been thinking a lot about how I can use this space to bridge the gap between my love for fashion and my love for business and marketing. I recently added the tagline “Mixing business & fashion while heavily caffeinated.” to my Instagram profile. I love sharing outfits, travel and wellness tips on The Lovely Girl, but I feel like the one thing that’s missing is a monthly check-in. So the 1st-ish of every month, I’m going to get a little more into sharing both halves of how my brain work: creative & analytical aka fashion & business. So today I’m mixing edgy and feminine with business.
So over the weekend, Mike and I went out to eat at our favorite local restaurant, Blue Moon Evolution. I mixed feminine and edgy with this navy lace bell sleeve dress, which was perfect for hiding all of the delicious food and cocktails we indulged ourselves with. Since it’s been chilly, I wore my OTK boots (similar) with black leggings underneath (not shown in photos hehe). At dinner we reflected about September and also chatted about our goals for October. Many of you do not know this, but Mike truly is the other half of Style Collective. He helps me with SO many things behind the scenes and truly loves all of the girls in the group. He knows most of you by name/Instagram name which is just adorable. Everyday he is always asking: how are the girls? What are the girls up to?
So over dinner we reflected about SC, discussed what worked, what didn’t and what changes I’ll be making going forward.
Strategy is more than a plan, more than resources, more than method: it includes halftime adjustments.
You might be thinking: oh man, poor Mike. BUT hear me out: he has a passion for entrepreneurship and business. He had his own business for 5 years after college and now that he works at PwC, he gets to scratch that itch by helping me with my business. It’s a perfect match for both of us and a new way for us to connect. Spicing it up with business and strategy… and blog photos, oh yeah.
My main focus for the month of October is to finally build out Style Collective as a brand: updating the website, adding new features, getting the look, feel and messaging honed in. I launched earlier this year by the seat of my pants, so now I can finally revisit this. I have been doing competitive analysis and keyword research like a crazy person. Branding is really like shopping: you observe the trends, do your research, figure out what you like and don’t like and come up with a wish list. Lots of research, testing, trying things on, seeing how it fits, making a tweak or trying something totally different. It’s a fun game to play. I’m excited for you guys to see how it all turns out over the next few weeks.
But back to this dress… I received this as part of a collaboration with Charming Charlie when I was in New York earlier this month. Anna and I had a meeting with their PR manager and she gave us some gift cards to do a little shopping. I picked out two outfits, this being one of them. I love CC because I can have fun with trendy clothes without breaking the bank. A little lace bell sleeve dress for $35? Sure, why not? I save my designer purchases for less trendy items and re-wear them year after year. Working on shooting some looks with items I featured last fall… if it will ever stop raining!
Do you ever take time to reflect each month? What are some of your goals for October? Would love to chat in comments! xo Annie
