Hi friends! Things have been busy between both of my businesses, which makes me so happy and fulfilled to be able to help other people in so many different ways from social media education to creating someone’s dream home. We moved into our home a year and a half ago and I’m still dreaming up fun and unique ways to add some flair to different spaces. One of those is our pantry off the kitchen – it’s a decent sized closet with built-in shelving. I am so grateful to have a pantry next to our kitchen in this house because, in our previous home, our make-shift pantry was in our finished basement. Our pantry revamp was an idea that I came up with on a whim by combining my love of wallpaper, bright watercolors, and floral shaped flush mounts.
Hudson Valley Lighting Chandler Aged Brass Two Light Flush Mount – I like shopping on either 1-800-lighting or Bellacor for HVL fixtures.
I recently put a similar light in a client’s office revamp (more on that before and after soon!) and I’ve been seeing these lights everywhere. There are a lot of budget friendly versions, but for our pantry I opted to purchase the well-made and higher end version from Hudson Valley Lighting (which is coincidentally also where I am from in NY). I love this light fixture because it’s made of glass and metal, and it is solid – no cheap plastic in sight! The sides of the light are actually curved pieces of glass that I inserted into the fixture before mounting it. Once it was up, we installed the bulbs, added the glass flower plate and secured it with the metal flower shaped knob. Installing it was a piece of cake – and the instructions were actually written in proper English. You really get what you pay for and I can’t wait to change out some of our other fixtures with well-made and beautiful pieces from Hudson Valley Lighting!
For the wallpaper, I was browsing Wayfair looking at various wallpaper patterns (I actually have an entire wish list saved that I can pull from for future client work) and found this lemon watercolor removable wallpaper. I loved the idea of a bright pop on the ceiling in a stark white pantry with a gold metal flower shaped light. My Grammy had a lot of bright yellow in her house, so this wallpaper reminded me of her and it makes me smile. 🙂
Once I had my wallpaper and light fixture picked out, I ordered both! This was a pretty straight forward install, but we did have a fluorescent light on the ceiling that needed to be removed first. So we did that, had an electrician install a junction box, and then did ceiling dry wall repair before putting up the wallpaper. I have to note that we had to chip away at putting up the vinyl panels over 2 or 3 days because it was time-consuming and frustrating at times, but well worth the effort! After the wallpaper was up, we mounted the light fixture and voila! I ended up buying GE Daylight LED Bulbs to mimic the bright white look of the fluorescent bulbs. I had first used regular GE Reveal LED bulbs and it was just too yellow in the pantry, but now it’s perfect!
So that’s it for my pantry ceiling reveal, what do you think? Is this something that you would attempt to do in your home?
